Project brief: come up with a theme, import 3D models from 3D warehouse and design architecture around the theme. Create 3 illustrations based on chosen theme.
The theme that I chose was movies. I chose Interstellar, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Beetlejuice.
My first movie was Interstellar. I was inspired by the scene where the main character is viewing his house from an alternate dimension. For this illustration, I drew everything by hand, and did not end up importing any 3D models. I went with a simple color scheme of red, black and white, with a bit of green.
For my second movie I chose Fantastic Mr. Fox. There were many scenes that I was inspired by, but ultimately I went with the top left image, and drew the outside view of their fox hole. For this illustration I took a still from the movie and photoshopped the image, then drew on top of it.
For my final movie I chose Beetlejuice. Once again there were a lot of scenes from this movie that I was inspired by, ultimately I chose the bottom right image, the club.
These are the images populated by Midjourney AI, based on Metallica's Master of Puppets album cover.
For this illustration I used Midjourney to create the background for my illustration. Into the AI software I inserted a photo of Metallica's Master of Puppets album cover. I kept re-uploading the album art on top of itself until Midjourney populated an image that I was happy with. Once I had a solid background, I 3D modeled and then drew the nightclub. I photoshopped both my drawing and the AI image together to create the final product.
All in all, I think that this was a very fun project. I enjoyed playing with Midjourney AI software as well. Before this project I had never used AI to generate images, so it was quite the learning experience.
I enjoyed being able to combine my love of movies and my love of design. This project taught me a lot about getting creative and loose with the ways I draw.
